The company is aiming at the world of Gielinor and RuneScape with plans to release the board game as well as the core book for tabletop RPGs in the coming year. The two RPG adaptations will feature many of the most loved characters and places, allowing groups of up to five players to compete against classic quests in RuneScape in addition to RS Gold bringing the adventures in Gielinor to life. Players will be able to craft and upgrade equipment, interact with NPCs, and take on numerous side quests that are influenced of the original MMORPG. The board game will debut through an Kickstarter campaign later this year, while the tabletop RPG book is scheduled to go on sale immediately.
The primary book for tabletop RPGs will notably be fully compatible with the massive tabletop RPG Dungeons and Dragons' fifth edition book, allowing dungeon masters to seamlessly integrate elements of RuneScape into their campaigns.
Jagex President Phil Mansell was optimistic about the project , expressing his excitement regarding Kickstarter. He expressed his excitement over the Kickstarter campaign "involving communities from RuneScape and RuneScape communities" and Steamforged CCO Mat Hart believed the "rich RuneScape universe will be beautifully translated" to a tabletop game.
RuneScape has grown significantly from its web-based predecessors over the past few years with Steamforged's boardgame as the most recent offering from Jagex.
