- The nozzle of the bottle may be blocked. If your spray bottle contains oil or anything that can harden, such as hair spray, you should clean the nozzle regularly. how? Unscrew and remove the cap, place it in hot running water or dip it in vinegar, and use a pin to poke a hole in any blockage in the nozzle itself. If your bottle contains hairspray, soak the nozzle in alcohol. If the blockage is abnormal, unscrew the entire sprayer from the bottle and soak it in the vinegar.
- The spring may be damaged. When you pump the piston and it doesn't retract, the cause can be a damaged or missing spring, but sometimes the spring just pops in the wrong place. If you can use springs, then you can get replacements at any hardware store. If the spring cannot be reached or the piston seal has failed, the sprayer will need to be replaced.
- The inner tube may not be immersed in the liquid. The plastic tube attached to the sprayer is designed to extend to the bottom of the bottle, but it often curls and the end sticks out of the liquid in the bottle when the liquid level is low. You can prevent the tube from curling by purchasing a foot-long 1/8-inch plastic tube from the hardware store. Cut the existing tube so that there is only an inch left on the sprayer, then push the 1/8-inch tube over it and attach the 1/8-inch metal nut to the other end. The weight keeps the tube submerged even if you tip the bottle over or tip it over.
