What is a sealed lead-acid battery (AGM or gel) battery?
The sealed lead-acid battery is very similar to the flooded version but inaccessible in the cabin. This means you don't have to add distilled water. The electrolyte is sealed inside, enough to allow the battery to run the calculated number of cycles.
You will sometimes see this called VRLA (Valve Regulated Lead Acid) batteries because they have a small valve that allows the gas that occurs during charging to escape.
What is Sealed AGM Battery?
Absorbent glass mat batteries are the most popular VRLA batteries because they can work under a variety of conditions. The electrolyte is suspended in a thin glass fiber mat between the lead plates. This makes the batteries resistant to vibration, which makes them an excellent choice for RVs and other mobile applications.
They can also be installed in any orientation. They are usually seen installed on the side to facilitate placement and wiring.
A sealed AGM Battery is more expensive than a flooded lead-acid battery, and its service life is not long. But for this extra price, you don’t need to maintain the battery or deal with as much gas as possible during the charging phase.
They are ideal for mobile applications, places where acid leakage can cause problems, remote areas where regular maintenance is not possible, and places where batteries may be exposed to extremely cold temperatures.
