      Confetti Party Poppers Craft

These are super easy for kids to make, and while I did these especially for New Years, you can make them for any event! Plus, making your own paper confetti is way better for the environment than foil confetti! Here’s what you’ll need to get started.

Check out our New Years printable mad libs, too, to make sure you ring in the new year while laughing!

      Supplies:

Toilet paper or cut down paper towel tubes

      Scrapbook or construction paper

      Packing tape

      Hole Punch

Washi tape, stickers, gems, or other decorations

      Permanent adhesive roller

      Scissors

Balloons (I save balloons left over from parties for crafts!)

Start by tying knots in your balloons about an inch of the way up from the opening, just like when you tie shut a blown up balloon. Use your scissors to cut the top half of your balloon off, and you can throw away that piece. We just need the tied bottom part. Stretch the bottom part of the balloon over one end of your toilet paper tube. It should be fairly tight, but not so tight that it squishes the tube. Use your packing tape to secure it in place all the way around.

Measure our some scrapbook paper using your tube. You want it to be just a smidge longer than your tube is tall, and wide enough to wrap all the way around the tube and overlap by about an inch. Once you have your paper cut, go ahead and put adhesive all over the edges and inside of the paper. Make sure to keep any scraps to make confetti with later! Then you just carefully wrap it around the outside of your tube, pressing it down well. To help make sure it stays in place and add some decoration, wrap washi tape around the top and bottom of the tube.

Isn’t it cute? You can add stickers and other decorations too if you like! Go ahead and decorate all of the poppers you want to make.

Now let’s make some confetti to put inside our poppers. I’m going to show you two easy ways to make confetti out of scrap paper. The first method is time consuming, but great for strengthening your hands. Just use a standard hole punch (or even a tiny shape punch) to punch out a ton of tiny circles out of scrap paper! The other method is to use scissors to cut thin strips into a piece of paper, leaving the very back edge uncut. Then you fold the paper up, and cut along the strips to make tiny square and rectangle confetti.

Personally, I like a combination of both! I think different shapes add so much interest to confetti!

Now all you need to do is put your confetti into your poppers. A spoonful will be plenty! I like keeping my confetti in a small container and just have the kids scoop some into the poppers when it’s time to celebrate.
