New World wants to improve its endgame with mutators

  • New World's latest patch aims to improve the Amazon MMO's much lamented endgame experience by introducing game-changing mutators. After completing an endgame expedition, players will receive a codex and orb that allows them to revert to that expedition with an activated mutator. These add challenges and New World Gold, modify common and named enemies, and increase the complexity and unpredictability of enemy encounters.

    The exact combination of Expeditions and Mutations will rotate weekly as players battle their way through increasingly difficult challenges (10 difficulty levels for each Expedition Mutant). Mutations will also have a base difficulty for all players, which is then adjusted individually based on each player's gear score.

    Since New World is an MMO, there's a whole bunch of hiccups around crafting orbs, and minor changes around their inclusion, all detailed in the patch notes. Second, they come with a rebalancing of expedition drop rates and rewards, and named enemies in particular should be much more lucrative.

    The patch also adds umbral shards, which remind me of Bayonetta, but here's a new resource that lets players go from level 590 to 625, and getting these shards is part of the Mutant Crusade bonus. Of course, players can also buy New World Gold at IGGM. New World seems to have gotten into a good shape, and aside from the fishing bot, Amazon Game Studios was more transparent than we expected about the mistakes Amazon Game Studios made during launch.
