  Cash App, created in 2015 as Square Cash, is a mobile app designed for sending and receiving money. It is available for iOS and Android users, and setting up an account is free of charge. Cash App can be used to instantly send and receive payments within the United States, but it won’t work for international exchanges. 

  You can connect your bank account or your debit/credit card to send out payments. Cash App also provides users with a free Visa debit card that is connected with your Cash App balance and can be used for making purchases online and in stores, or for ATM withdrawals. At this point, Cash App doesn’t support PayPal.

  With around 24 million monthly active users in 2019, Cash App is meant to be a peer-to-peer service. In theory, you should use it to make even with your friends after splitting taxi fare or to refund 50 percent to your sibling because they paid for the Mother’s Day gift in full. It is not uncommon that Cash App is used for giving out personal loans or paying for products and services, which leaves a lot of opportunities for possible fraud and scams. 

  Cash App payments are supposed to be instant and, therefore, irreversible. While you do have some options to try to get your money back through the app, there is no guarantee they will always work. 

  In case you’re dealing with a legitimate merchant and the purchase was finalized over Cash App, you should start the refund process through the app. If you sent money to the wrong person or the amount was incorrect, the sooner you realize it, the better as you might still be able to cancel the payment. If you suspect fraudulent transactions or if you believe you’ve been scammed, you might try to dispute the charges by asking Cash Support for help.

  If you choose to ask for your money back through Cash App, the procedures may be different, depending on the problem you’re experiencing. 

  Canceling a payment

  For canceling a payment made on Cash App, your speed will be of utmost importance. Canceling works on pending transactions, and it can be done through the app. The process goes like this:

  1. Open the Cash App and find the Activity tab
  2. Locate the payment you want to cancel
  3. Tap the three dots to see more options
  4. Select Cancel the payment
  5. Confirm your choice by pressing OK

  Refunding a payment

  If you bought something from a merchant via Cash App and it never arrived, or it came damaged, with missing parts or not working, you can request a refund. The process is similar to canceling a transaction:

  1. Open the Activity tab in your Cash App
  2. Find the charge you want to have refunded
  3. Tap the three dots in the top-right corner
  4. Choose Refund
  5. Hit OK to initiate the refund request

  If the merchant you did business with doesn’t plan on scamming you, they will accept your request and send your money back. The same process applies when you send money to someone you know, but it turns out you didn’t have to. 

  The problems can arise if the person on the other end decides that they don’t want to honor your refund request. In that case, you might have to initiate a chargeback.

  If your attempt to claim your refund directly with a merchant fails, you are advised to try disputing the charges. You can start the process by contacting Cash support via:

  For settling disputes, you need to contact customer support first. One of the ways to do so is directly through Cash App:

  1. Tap the profile icon on the home screen of your Cash App
  2. Scroll down and select Cash Support
  3. Choose the Something Else option
  4. Pick the issue you have
  5. Tap Contact Support

  1. Open the Cash App Help page
  2. Scroll down and click the Contact Support link

  Cash App has a phone number you can dial for support, and it is 855-351-2274. While you won’t be able to talk to a live representative, you will hear automated instructions on different topics, which makes this method somewhat useless.
