    The industry partners of Schleifring considered a number of different options, some of which included portable measuring arms, laser applications, and bridge-type coordinate measuring machines (CMMs). And despite the fact that laser measuring systems would have provided a higher level of accuracy when compared to portable measuring arms, the high cost of implementing laser applications at the time rendered this alternative unfeasible. As a result, portable measuring arms were the method that was ultimately chosen.

    Because of concerns about worker protection, it was imperative that the machine that was chosen have the capacity to carry out measurements without requiring the component to be moved.

    Assurance Technologies Inc.'s Eric Baumler and Ryan Losacco, both of whom are members of Mitutoyo America Corp.'s sales team, worked together on this project. After conducting investigation and engaging in deliberation, the company came to the conclusion that it should purchase the Mitutoyo Crysta-Apex S2030-16 CMM.
