The European Die Casting Competition is being organized for the first time by the German Die Casting Association and the trade fair EUROGUSS. The competition is open to all European die castings. With this exhibition, the die casting process in the materials aluminum, magnesium, and zinc will be demonstrated for their versatility in applications, their innovative strength, their high level of quality, and their performance in a variety of applications.
Additionally, the German Foundry Industry Federation (Bundesverband der Deutschen Gießerei-Industrie e. V. - BDG), the General Association of the Aluminum Industry (Gesamtverband der Aluminiumindustrie e. V. - GDA), and the European Magnesium Research Association (Europäische Forschungsgemeinschaft Magnesium e. V. - EFM) have all expressed support for the award.
In the materials, the competition entries will be evaluated individually in terms of innovation, quality, cost-effectiveness, resource-efficient design, and level of difficulty, among other criteria. Following that, the three best parts for each material will be selected and awarded. The evaluation and selection of the castings will be carried out by a competent jury comprised of representatives from both research and industry sectors.
The winners will be announced on January 17, 2022, at the opening ceremony of EUROGUSS 2022 in Stockholm, Sweden. The prize will be presented during the press tour on January 18, 2022, during the award ceremony, during which a certificate and the EUROGUSS zinc die castings Award will be presented. Starting in the first week of December 2021, the winners will receive a written notification of the jury's decision. In addition, on the evening of January 17, 2022, the participants in the opening event will vote for an audience award from among the materials ranked from first to third in the respective categories.
Situations in which businesses compete
1. The competition entries must have been filmed in the European Union (EU/EEA, excluding Switzerland) or the European Economic Area.
2. Customers and in-house foundries based in the EU/EEA, including Switzerland, may enter the competition with a maximum of two entries per company in the competition. Each part requires its own entry form, which must be enclosed with it. Please ensure that all of the products are labeled with the same number so that when the products are unpacked, the individual forms can be assigned to the appropriate castings.
3. Die castings can be sent in as single or composite zinc die castings. They should be deburred, but they should not be subjected to any mechanical or chemical surface treatment. Surface-treated castings must also include the finished part of the casting that has been surface-treated.
4. The castings that are submitted must be from the current production schedule. Those castings that have previously won an award in a national or international competition are disqualified from participating in the competition. The jury's evaluation will be aided by the inclusion of construction and assembly drawings. It is also necessary to submit photographs or brochures of the application in which the casting will be installed.
5) By completing and signing the registration form, participants agree that their parts may be used for zinc die casting advertising purposes (film and image use in print and online media, as well as an exhibition at VDD events, such as the die casting Day and the Aluminium Trade Fair) and that they will become the property of the VDD after the event.
