Practical example: using a shear beam or bending beam load cell for liquid level monitoring
Use a shear beam or bending beam load cell to check the filling level by measuring the weight of the container and its contents. The filling height of the container or tank can be calculated from the measurement data of the weight level monitoring. This measurement method has many advantages:
Can measure liquid level and accurate mass at the same time.
There is no need to enter the storage tank or container, thus avoiding contact with the medium.
The measurement has nothing to do with the material, its characteristics, and the geometry of the container.
If necessary, the curved or shear beam can be easily replaced.
In liquid level measurement, the weighbridge load cell must function, regardless of the nature and condition of the medium: liquid or solid, corrosive or mild, conductive or non-conductive, foam or dust, steam or cold, hot or cold, small or large particles. Regardless of the geometry of the container and whether the container medium is evenly or unevenly distributed, the cells must function well. These factors must not affect the measurement results or permanent function. This also applies to applications with strict requirements on temperature, where robustness and high durability are required, for example in the steel industry.
In the agricultural industry, there is a great need for stainless steel bending beams for weighing. For example, when planting or fertilizing, you can save a lot of money by accurately distributing seeds or fertilizers. As with automation, the basis is precise measurement values. This is why high-precision shear beams that are not sensitive to lateral loads are ideal.
