Larger bad load capacity
The double shear beam load cell can withstand 100% of the lateral load when fully loaded in the vertical direction. It can bear a larger eccentric load without causing any damage, and the compression type load cell cannot be without any eccentric or sideload.
Reduce susceptibility to unfavorable loads
The double shear beam load cell is inherently insensitive to eccentric load, bending stress, torque, and sideload, while the compression type shear beam load cell eccentric load sensitivity is less than +/- 0.03% / 1/8" eccentric in the longitudinal direction The eccentricity of 1/8 inch per lateral direction is less than +/- 0.02%. Moreover, the lateral load sensitivity of the double shear beam load cell is about ten times higher than that of the traditional design.
Lower height
Compared with the compression load cell of the same capacity, the height of the double shear beam load cell is lower. This leads to a more stable structure.
Reduce creep and return to zero faster after unloading
Through appropriate selection, the creep level of the double-ended shear beam load cell with a strain gauge is kept as low as +/- 0.025% after 20 minutes of loading and load removal, +/- 0.02% returns to zero within 15 seconds. It is difficult to obtain the above values in compression load cells.
Higher dynamic force and vibration tolerance
The transducer is subjected to high power and vibration during its operation. The design of the transducer must be able to withstand the above conditions without damaging the very fine solder joints that connect the different components in the load cell.
Not affected by the barometer effect
Unlike the compression load cell, the double shear beam load cell is not affected by air pressure. In a compression load cell, the spring element will withstand a certain degree of strain due to the pressure difference between the sensor housing and the atmosphere. When the air pressure effect is obviously high, it needs to be compensated. In the shear beam design, the load cell manufacturer's load cell bears the same pressure on both sides, so the air pressure effect is negligible.
Higher application flexibility
Various mounting technologies and adapters can provide a double shear beam load cell that is easy to adapt to any type of application.
