PTFE is mainly used as gasket material

  • PTFE is the abbreviation for polytetrafluoroethylene. It is often used as a sealing material because it can withstand more severe chemical environments (including highly oxidizing environments) than rubber or graphite-based materials. However, its operating temperature, pressure, and mechanical properties may not be as good as standard non-asbestos or Graphite Gaskets materials.

PTFE is mainly used as a gasket material because it is inert in nature and is not affected by most chemicals used in the industry. In addition, in most cases, it can be classified as a food-grade material, making it acceptable to the medical and food production industries. There are four basic types of PTFE Gaskets materials. Pure PTFE, filled PTFE, recombined PTFE, and expanded PTFE.
